Pitch Perfect: Structuring your Pitch for Impact

There are just a few weeks to go until our first-ever Community Showcase - and we couldn't be more excited to spend the evening celebrating the creativity, innovation, and collective spirit of our community.

A particularly exciting element of the event will be the pitching segment, where community members will have the opportunity to present their business ideas, social impact projects, or innovative solutions addressing local challenges.

In the lead-up to the Showcase, we’ll be working closely with those pitching - providing 1:1 coaching to help them confidently present their ideas and perfect the art of pitching.

Why Pitching Matters

Pitching is a crucial skill for anyone with an idea to share.

It’s a great way to get clear on your vision, articulate your ideas in a way that others can connect with, and generate the support you need - whether that's investment, building your team, or generating feedback.

Three Winning Pitch Structures to Consider

When it comes to pitching, time is often limited, making it essential to deliver your message clearly and effectively. Investing time in structuring your pitch can make a significant difference in how your ideas are received.

There are many ways to frame your pitch - but here are three proven structures that you may want to experiment with next time you have an idea to pitch:

1. Problem - Solution - Call to Action

  • Introduction: Start by grabbing attention. Whether it’s a story or a powerful fact, get people listening. Briefly introduce yourself and your project.

  • Problem: Clearly state the issue you’re tackling. Why is it important? Who is affected?

  • Solution: Present your solution. What makes your approach unique or particularly effective?

  • Call to Action: End by telling the audience what you want them to do. Whether it’s offering feedback, joining your cause, or simply thinking about the issue in a new way, leave them with a clear next step.

2. Vision - Approach - Impact

  • Introduction: Lead with your vision - what’s the change you want to see in the world? Why is this important to you?

  • Approach: Explain how you’re turning this vision into reality. Talk about the steps you’re taking or the strategies you’re using.

  • Impact: Highlight the impact you’re making. Whether it’s data, testimonials, or personal stories, show why your work matters. End with your plans to continue driving that impact forward.

3. Storytelling Approach

  • Introduction: Begin with a personal story or real-life example that connects with your work. Draw the audience in emotionally.

  • Journey: Share the challenges you’ve faced and the learnings you’ve gained along the way. What led you to create this solution or business?

  • Solution and Future: Introduce your solution and explain what you’ve accomplished so far. Then, share your vision for the future, leaving the audience with a memorable closing statement.

Experimenting with your Structure

Mastering the art of pitching can enhance your ability to share ideas and engage with your audience. Take the time to explore different pitch structures and find the one that resonates most with your message.

And, if you're feeling bold and are ready to put your skills to the test, we still have a few spaces available for people to pitch at our Showcase, happening November 8th. You can apply here.
